October 4, 2017: Strategic Renewal
I take this oppor tunity to r emind you that our school will r eview our Strategic Renewal in the form of cyclical review and identify key goals for next year and beyond. This process informs us about how our school is performing in a range of components and we rate our school based on input from parents, staff and students.

Your input is essential to ensure validity of the data collected. A Parent survey has been created and sent to families https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/parentvoice17 This survey will be open until the end of week 2 Term 4. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

September 13, 2017: Congratulations Mr Peter Griffin
Congratulations to Peter who has been appointed principal of St Elizabeth’s Ekibin. Peter has been APRE at St Anthony’s since 2012, until he received an acting principal role at St. Elizabeth’s late in 2017. It has now been confirmed that he will continue in that role as Principal. A well deserved appointment. We take this opportunity to thank Peter for all that he gave to our community; his wonderful leadership, wisdom and fantastic sense of humour. We wish him all the best for the years ahead. The process of appointing our next Assistant Principal Religious Education (APRE) for St Anthony’s in 2018 and beyond will be carried out following BCE guidelines in the near future.

On Wednesday August 30 we will be offer ing a free father ’s day brekky starting from 7:30am on the lawn between the Yr 1 block and Prep block. We will be cooking bacon and egg burgers for all the Dads, Granddads, Stepdads and other father figures in our community. Following the breakfast we invite everyone to join us for our Prayer parade in the Antonio Centre at 8:35am. Thank you to Mr Luke Marton (father of students Denver and Noah) who has generously offered to provide all the eggs (free range) for the breakfast. There will be a Father’s Day stall which will be held for all students to purchase gifts on Friday September 1.

August 22, 2017: QCMF - Band And Choir
Congr atulations to all our students who par ticipated in last Friday’s QCMF competition. Our school band and both the Senior and Junior Choirs participated in the event. Our school band combined with St Rita’s band and achieved a GOLD Award! Both choirs also achieved a Silver Award.

This is an outstanding performance for our Band and Choirs and I would like to also thank Mr Dave Smith for his work with our band and preparing them for this event and to Mrs Heather Francis for her work with both our choirs.

August 2, 2017: What a fantastic fete!
We held our annual school FETE on July 29 and it was a terrific day. We were blessed with perfect weather and had a huge crowd throughout the day. As is always the case with such events the success is reflective on the generous parent and community effort to organise the many elements prior to the day, run events and stalls on the day and pack up afterwards. Again, I was incredibly impressed by the efforts of all those parents and other family members, staff and students who assisted with ensuring the day was a great success. I would like to especially acknowledge our Fete Committee and P & F Committee and their respective families. Thank you for your incredibly hard work and dedication to the St Anthony's Fiesta and ensuring such events are successful. We certainly have an active and welcoming community at St Anthony’s and I thoroughly enjoyed sharing the enjoyment of our Fete everyone.

July 18, 2017: Athletics Carnival
Last week we held our athletics carnival on Thursday and Friday and we were blessed with tremendous weather! Both days were a great success and I would like to thank Mr Brendan Marrinan for the work he dedicated to preparing and coordinating the event and to all the families, staff and students who helped throughout the 2 days. Congratulations to the winning house - Cunningham, 2nd Leichhardt, 3rd Oxley and 4th Flinders.

June 13, 2017: St Anthony's Feast Day
We celebrated the Feast of Saint Anthony by celebrating Mass and by participating in fun activities. It was a wonderful time to build community spirit. I would like to thank Father Emmanuel and Deacon Ray for leading us in Mass as a school community and the P&F for organising our cake and ice blocks for students. On this day we reflect on the qualities of our patron saint; who was born in Lisbon in 1195 on June 13th. He joined the Franciscan Order becoming a priest. Anthony dedicated his life to Jesus. He was known as a great speaker and able to preach the word of God in simple terms. He spent his life caring for the poor and needy. A famous saying of his is: “Let our words teach and our actions speak.” This is like the more common saying of, “Actions speak louder than words!” It is through our actions that we can show our love for others. This week, let us be mindful of how our actions affect others and like Saint Anthony continue to grow in our faith and love of God.

June 6, 2017: Athletics Carnival - Postponed to Term 3
Due to wet weather we will be holding our school athletics carnival early in Term 3 with all students from Prep to Year 6 (and the students from St Anthony’s Kindergarten). The students have been preparing during their PE lessons for these days. I would like to acknowledge the tremendous work of Mr Brendan Marrinan for preparing the students and organising our two-day carnival.

May 30, 2017: Oxley House Mass
Last Sunday Oxley House celebrated our St Anthony’s parish mass. Thank you to the families and staff who attended this special mass. It was wonderful to have so many St Anthony’s families celebrating mass together. Thank you to Mrs Kellie Jacobsen for preparing the students for the Mass.

May 23, 2017: Basketball
Last Sunday we had a St Anthony’s basketball team participate in a competition held at the Capalaba PCYC. It involved Year 6 students who trialled during lunchtimes with Mrs Todd and were picked to represent St Anthony’s at this event. Congratulations to this team as they achieved an overall 3rd for the competition. Thank you to Mrs Todd for coordinating this team and offering the opportunity for the students to participate in the event.

May 16, 2017: QC Cup Netball
St Anthony’s had 2 teams competing in the Netball competition involving Queensland Catholic Schools known as the QC Cup. I would like to acknowledge Miss Bianca Morschel, Mrs Kellie Jacobsen and Nicola Zeller (parent) for coaching the students and preparing them for the competition. Our Year 5 team finished 3rd in their pool and the Year 6 team finished 4th. Well done to everyone.

May 9, 2017: Invitational Cross Country
Last Thursday, 88 of our students represented St Anthony’s at our own annual invitational cross country meet. We were very happy with the students’ behaviour, sportsmanship and effort made in their events and throughout the meet. Their commitment to our team and the 10-week training schedule greatly prepared them for this competition. I would like to thank Mr Brendan Marrinan, Ms Olivia Petkofski, Mr Ben Luscombe and the parents who helped out during training mornings. Pennants will be handed out in a couple weeks’ time after the Year 5 and 6 camps. Thank you all for a great running season and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

May 2, 2017: Mothers' Day Morning Tea
At St Anthony’s we will be celebrating Mother’s Day on Friday 12th May which will begin with a special Mother’s Day Prayer assembly at 8:35am in the Antonio Centre, followed by a morning tea (free of charge) for all the Mothers, Grandmothers, Guardians and Aunties in our community. May 2, 2017: NAPLAN Testing
Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the national literacy and numeracy tests on May 9-10-11, 2017. Our staff have worked hard to ensure the students are well prepared for these tests and we are very proud of the effort all students have made in these lessons and look forward to the results later this year. We expect to receive the results in the last week of term 3 or first week term 4.

April 26, 2017: ANZAC Day Dawn Service
Thank you to all the students, staff and families who could attend the dawn service at Cleveland. I was reading an article in the local paper about the dawn service in Cleveland and it said there were thousands of people in attendance. This is an incredible response and demonstrates that the significance of this day is growing each year and adults and children today want to pay their respect to those who have lost their life during service to our country and to those who are currently serving.

April 19, 2017: Cross Country Training
Over the holidays many St Anthony’s children continued to participate in cross country training at St Anthony’s. The training sessions were held over both weeks and on the last session of the second week a BBQ breakfast was provided to all the students and parents attending these training sessions. I would like to acknowledge and thank Mr Marrinan for coordinating and running these training sessions during his break and for his generosity to dedicate some of his holiday time to ensure the students are well prepared for the upcoming cross country events. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the parents who brought their child/ren to these training sessions.

March 22, 2017: Easter Liturgies
We begin to recount the last days of Jesus’ time here on Earth. As a school we retell the events of Holy Week, a week that is most sacred in the Catholic tradition. Below is a timetable of the prayers being presented. Families are very welcome to join in our Holy Week prayers in the top covered area/hall.

Stations of the Cross Prayer Walk:
The students will have an opportunity to walk the Stations of the Cross in their classes as part of their prayer routine for the week. I will be leading a parent station of the cross walk if anyone is interested after the Thursday’s morning prayer. Please meet me outside the hall.

March 15, 2017: Project Compassion 2017
During the six weeks of Lent we are all challenged to consider how we might renew and refresh our relationship with our God through reflection, prayer and practical acts of giving to others.

At this time each year, our school community strives to make a significant contribution to Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion – an annual fundraising and awareness-raising appeal that aims to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity for the world’s poorest people.  This year’s theme is “Love Your Neighbour”.

Thank you for the support and generosity shown at our snow cone fundraiser. We raised over $700 for Project Compassion.

February 28, 2016: Season on Lent
This week Catholics par ticipate in significant events in our Liturgical Calendar. Today our students enjoyed pancakes for Shrove Tuesday and participated in a liturgy where their Lenten promises were burnt. The students made a promise today to God that they will try to carry out in the Lenten period. Thank you to those volunteers who assisted with making 500 pancakes. Lent is known as a forty-day preparation time, although it is actually 44 days long. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends just before the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday evening. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. On Ash Wednesday we are marked with ash as a sign that we are ready to begin our Lenten journey towards Easter. The season of Lent is one of opportunity for growth for each of us. We need to be kind to ourselves and nurture our spirits with prayer. This fits in with our school’s well being week this week. Many activities will be run during the week to enhance student well being.

February 28, 2016: Swimming Carnival
Last Friday we held our school swimming carnival for Years 3 – 6. It was a fantastic day for all of the students. I would like to thank Mr Brendan Marrinan for his preparation leading up to the event and coordination of the day and congratulate Cunningham house for winning the over all points on the day. At next Friday’s (10th March) assembly we will announce the Age Champions and the winner of the “Kathy Otto Award”. This is the 17th Anniversary of the Shield which is in memory of a past St Anthony’s family member, Kathy Otto, whose love of swimming and her invaluable contributions to the preparation, organisation and running of the St Anthony’s Swimming Carnival are well remembered by those who knew her. The Shield is awarded each year to a Boy and a Girl who exhibit the qualities of leadership, effort, participation and team spirit.

February 14, 2016: Prep 2018 Enrolments
We are now accepting applications for enrolments from all our school families and the wider community for our Preparatory Year for 2018. A child born from 1st July 2012 to 30th June 2013 will be eligible for the preparatory year 2018. Preference for enrolment will be given to siblings of children already attending St Anthony’s School, provided that enrolment procedures are completed and school fees are up to date. I look forward to meeting families who are interested in choosing St Anthony’s as their preferred school.

We are proud of the achievements of our students and the level of professionalism that our teachers provide to and for the students. This year we have a new Online Enrolment Form available. Enrolment Applications are also available from the school office.

February 7, 2016: Welcome Back to School BBQ
Last Friday afternoon/night we held our welcome back to school BBQ. We had many families attend the event and it was a tremendously positive and relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to all the families for making the time to be at this BBQ and enjoy the event. I would also like to acknowledge and thank all our staff for attending the night and assisting with the preparation, cooking and serving of the BBQ throughout the afternoon and night. We have a wonderful community at St Anthony’s and I thoroughly enjoyed the event.

January 24, 2017: Information nights for families
This year’s Parent Information Nights will be held over 2 nights next week. Prep families will be invited to attend an information night on Tuesday 31st January commencing in the Prep classrooms at 6:30pm. Families with children in Years 1 to 6 will be invited to attend an information night on Thursday February 2 which will commence at 6:00pm in the Antonio Centre where all parents will meet to listen to a 20 minute leadership presentation and then move to classes.

Each class teacher will provide two sessions on the night to allow for those families with children across more than one class. Each class information session will last approximately 30 minutes and then allow five minutes for families to move to another class if required and the teachers will then repeat the presentation.
